United States Passport

What is a passport ?

A United States passport is an internationally recognized travel document stating who you are and your nationality. It allows you to travel anywhere and affords you all lawful aid and protection.

How do you get a passport?

Þ You need two passport photographs from an accepted agent

Þ A copy of you birth certificate

Þ A valid form of photo identification such as a driver license

Þ Pay a fee of $60 if  16 years old or older and $40 if younger

How long does it take?

It takes about six weeks to get a passport.

 

Applying for a passport for a child.

 To submit an application for a passport for a child under 14 both parents or the child’s legal guardian (s) must appear and present the following.

Þ Evidence of the child’s U.S. Citizenship

Þ Evidence of the child’s relationship to parents/guardian(s)

Þ Parental identification

If only one parent appears you must also submit one of the following

Þ Second parent’s notarized written statement consenting to passport application for the child

Þ Primary evidence of sole authority to apply, or

Þ A written statement (made under penalty of perjury) explaining the second parent’s unavailability.

You need to complete an application for a passport and the following

Þ Proof of citizenship

Þ Proof of identity

Þ Two recent color photographs

Þ Pay a fee

Where do you take the application and proof.

Þ To the clerk of a federal, state or county court

Þ A judge or clerk of a probate court accepting applications

Þ A designated municipal or court official

Þ A designated postal employee at an authorized Post Office

Þ A Passport Agent
