Cheryl Gee, Farmworker Legal Services of New York, Inc.

Cheryl Gee is the Project Coordinator for The Farmworker Legal Services of NY, Inc. Domestic Violence Project located in Rochester, NY.  She is a key participant in the development and coordination of the Domestic Violence Project for Farmworker Women, which provides legal, advocacy, and referral services to farm worker women living in a 12 county area in Western New York.  The Project is funded by the United States Department of Justice under their Legal Assistance for Victims Grant.  Cheryl has been with Farmworker Legal Services for almost 8 years.  Her work involves outreach to migrant labor camps and homes of migrant and seasonal farm workers, providing education and information on domestic and sexual violence.  She also presents on the issues of domestic and sexual violence to a variety of community and social service agencies. She has also presented on a national level on the issues of providing services to immigrant victims of domestic and sexual violence, as well as outreach to the indigenous community and to farmworker Women.  Cheryl also provides extensive education to farm workers about their legal rights under The New York State Labor Laws, as well as their rights under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Worker Protection Standards.  Cheryl has been a member of The Farmworker Women’s Institute (FWI), since December 2000.  FWI was formed to help empower and organize farm worker women. Prior to working with Farmworker Legal Services of NY, Inc., Cheryl gained her experience in advocating and assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault while working as a Victim Services Specialist at Neighborhood Justice Project in Elmira, NY.  She continued her work in this field as a Senior Advocate/Counselor with the Salvation Army Safe house in Chemung County, NY.  Cheryl earned her B.S. in Psychology from Elmira College in 1993, with additional studies in Early Childhood Development and Human Services.
